The Bran Castle Tour Is A Must Do If You Travel To Brasov
The Bran Castle is the most popular landmark when visiting Brasov. It’s a medieval citadel dating from 1377. It was built for military purposes. The castle had the role to safeguard a millennium-old trade route that was passing through the mountain pass from the Bran Gorge. The citadel is built on the place of a former wooden castle erected by the Teutonic nights in 1212. Besides its defensive purpose the Bran castle was also a customs point between Transylvania and Wallachia. Later on, when Transylvania became part of Romania, the fortress was turned into a royal residence. Queen Marie received it as a gift from the Saxons of Brasov, for her active role in the Trianon treaty. She refurbished it with the help of the Czech architect Karel Liman. This is how the Bran Castle received its fairy tale touch!
